Outfitted In: Pandas and Circle Shades

Vintage Ray Ban Sunnies, etsy; Panda Shirt, F21; Necklace, Headband, Jeans, Sandals, Bag, and Girl Scout Necktie: All Thrifted
This outfit was as much about wearing new goodies as it was being comfortable for a day outside of the apartment. (You can see some of the leaves and twigs that blew off the surrounding trees the day before during Irene!)

Anyway, these sunnies are just about the most awesome etsy find ever! They're vintage Ray Ban, and they're round and solid and lovely! And, they were less than $40. :)

Also new in this outfit: the vintage bag I showed you all yesterday, a vintage Girl Scout necktie attached to it, a vintage made in Japan necklace, a beaded headband, and my new Forever 21 panda tee! Whew! Lots of new-to-me goodies for one outfit, especially for a thrifty girl such as myself. :)

I hope you're having a great week!

Thrift Find: Pretty Little Vintage

Vintage Handbag, Goodwill Outlet ($2)
I love the details of this little vintage handbag! It's made out of coated, twisted wood with a lucite handle- pretty awesome for two bucks!

Despite its looks, it actually is a decent size inside, too. :) Pretty exciting!

Have a great day. :)

Thrift Finds: A Little Bag of Treasure

Little Bag full of Vintage Dice, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
My quick jaunt to Goodwill Outlet Saturday didn't yield many finds, but I had to grab this bag of vintage dice! First off, I love the mustard color of the bag. Second, I'm a huge fan of vintage dice, which the bag was filled with. Score and score. :)

Some are really odd-shaped, and I'm sure those only make sense with the games they originally accompanied. But to look at, they're perfect!

Oh, and we survived the storm without losing power at all. :) I think this was the first hurricane/tropical storm I've been through where I didn't lose power!

Have a great Monday. :)

Amanda

Outfitted In: Black and Blue. Red and Rain.

Striped Shirt and Jeans: Target Clearance; Bag, Button-Up, Necklace: Thrifted; Sandals, Journeys
With the hurricane heading our way, I was thinking about just skipping thrifting yesterday. I ended up getting up pretty early and taking a quick trip to just Goodwill Outlet.

It wasn't busy there at all, and I ended up scoring an awesome vintage bag and a couple other little things! I was back home safe and sound by 10 am. :)

As I write this (Saturday afternoon), the trees outside are moving like crazy in the wind, and the rain is falling in every direction! Hurricanes and Tropical Storms remind me of growing up in Florida. Right now, we still have power, so I thought I'd go ahead and set up this post for tomorrow now just in case!

Have a great Sunday, everyone! And stay safe if you're in the path of the hurricane. :)

Detail Shot Saturday: Pretty Little Things

Here are a series of detail shots I've been taking the past couple weeks. :) Lots of fun, colorful, thrifted accessories are filling my late summer outfits.

Wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Thrift Finds: For the Thirteen Year Old Boy in All of Us

Everything, Goodwill Outlet (~$1)
I usually find a thing or two for the hubby while I'm thrifting, but a couple weekends ago, I hit the guy find motherload! As you can see, his interests still include video games, characters from childhood, and action figures. :) (I have to admit that I like these things too!)

I hope, when we have kids, that they enjoy these kinds of finds as much as we do. It's so much cheaper buying toys at Goodwill Outlet than the toy store!

Happy Friday!!

Amanda

Thrift Find: A Horse, of Course

Vintage Breyer Horse, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
I've seen Breyer horses all the time at antique shops, but always for twenty or thirty bucks. This one, yes, is minus a foot (hoof?), but it was a steal at less than a dollar!

What surprised me is how detailed these nice model horses are. While the real deal kind of scare me, (they're so big!) I like this small one. :)

Have any of you ever collected model horses?

Amanda

Outfitted In: Patterns and Fringe

Shirt, F21; Scarf, Jeans, Sandals, Bag: All Thrifted
This is the outfit I wore this past Sunday for movie-watching and hanging out with the hubby. :) I love my newly thrifted bag and Vera scarf!

I wasn't sure at first about pairing the scarf with the bag, but I decided the patterns worked together because they are in the same color family. (I feel like I heard that on What Not to Wear a couple years ago. Lol.)

The shirt is actually a new shirt from Forever 21. I like its cheekiness! (It says 'hola' on the front and 'adios' on the back!)

Well, I hope your week is going great! It's Wednesday already! :)

Always,
Amanda

PS: Did any of you experience the earthquake we had here in Virginia yesterday? It was nuts!!!

Thrift Find: Vintage Quilty Goodness :)

Vintage Quilted Potholder, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
I am a sucker for anything quilted. Seriously, show me a vintage quilted fill-in-the-blank that costs less than a buck, and I will want it. :)

Enter Goodwill Outlet, the home of, yes, the crazy shoppers who fight over fake Louis Vuitton bags. But also of pretty vintage goodies like the potholder above! It looks so pretty in our kitchen, and it even has a hook to hang it on the wall. :)

Thrift Find: Missoni-Like

Vintage Tote, Family Thrift ($2)
When I spotted this vintage printed tote at Family Thrift on Saturday, I grabbed it! I love everything about it: The colors, the pattern, the size. It's very unique, and unique is good.

When I got it home, I realized it sort of resembles Missoni patterns. And even though there's an upcoming Missoni for Target collection, the totes will cost considerably more than two bucks, right? :)

I hope you have a great Monday!

Outfitted In: Tassel Print and Navy

Floral Shirt, Button-Up, Jeans, Sandals, Fanny Pack, Necklace: All Thrifted
I was about to fall asleep Friday night when an idea came to me about my fanny pack.  By removing the belt and adding a normal purse strap, I can wear it like a cross-body purse. Heck yes!

I'm so excited to have a way to use it in all its tassel-printed glory. You know, without having a pack on my fanny.

This navy button-up is newly thrifted, and it's so comfy! I love the white stitching, and the faint nautical feel to it. And yes, this is yet another outfit with my floral shirt. What can I say? I love it!

I'm looking forward to a relaxing Sunday with my hubby. :) I hope yours is a happy one, too!

Amanda

Detail Shot Saturday: She Sells Seashells...

Necklace, Diversity Thrift
I love this shell necklace. :) It has definitely gotten lots of wear over the past year and a half. (I wore it almost every day last summer!)

I've gone through a couple cords for this pendant, though. For some reason, anything I string it with breaks, including the one pictured!

Oh well- at least I've managed not to loose the shell. :)

Have a great weekend!!

Amanda

Fanny Pack Friday :)

Fanny Pack, Goodwill Outlet ($2)
Fanny pack haters out there, don't worry- this won't be a weekly feature! (Mostly because this is my only fanny pack!) But when I saw this vintage tassel-printed gem in the Goodwill bins, I had to get it. I mean, I know fanny packs are not cute in general, but look at this print!

What's your opinion on fanny packs? Should they stay in the 90s and on tourists, or can they be a sort of fashion statement?

Happy Friday!

Amanda

Thrift Finds: Polaroids and Pipe Dreams

Vintage Polaroid Camera; Vintage Pipe Holder; Both: Goodwill Outlet (~$1)
It's been a long time since I've thrifted a Polaroid camera, but this yellow one was so bright and cheery I couldn't resist! Now, if I could only thrift some 600 film for it. Seeing as they go for about $30 a pack on eBay, I think I'm out of luck on that front!

The wooden pipe holder was given to the hubby. :) He has a vintage tobacco pipe collection, and this holder/tray was a great find for less than a buck. (I think the other Goodwill Outlet patrons didn't know what it was, which is how I was able to snag it!)

I hope you have a great day!

Amanda

Outfitted In: A Punchline :)

Shirt, Jeans, Bag, Necklace, Flats: All Thrifted
Sunday, I felt like dressing simply. So I reached for black and white and red all over! (Which is, I believe, the punchline to a couple of jokes. :) Lol.)

I thrifted these jeans at Goodwill the other day, and I'm a little undecided about them. They fit well and they're comfy, but are they long enough? I just can't decide! I might try them rolled up at the bottom next time. :)

I hope your week is going well! It's Wednesday already. :)

Amanda

Thrift Finds: Ruffles and Leather

Little Round Pillow; Leather Cord; Both: Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
While I didn't find a bunch of stuff at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday, I came home with a couple little things. (In addition to the red leather flats I showed you all yesterday!)

Perhaps the tiniest finds of the day, this little ruffly pillow and spool of leather cord are still pretty awesome. :) I actually almost bought the same leather cord at Michael's a couple weeks ago, but I didn't because it costs $20 there!

Naturally, when I spotted it in the bottom of the G.O. bins, I grabbed it with a huge smile on my face. :) It's just perfect for making necklaces with thrifted pendants!

And, man. I can't resist a cute little pillow that's small enough to tuck in a purse! After a good washing, this one is perfect for traveling as well as chilling on the couch. :)

I hope your week's going well!

Amanda

Thrift Finds: Red Leather Shoe Perfection!

Made in Spain Leather Flats , Goodwill Outlet ($2)
I've thrifted quite a lot of shoes from Goodwill Outlet, but I think these are actually my favorites! They are in like-new condition, they sport butterflies that are in no way reminiscent of Mariah Carey, and they are super comfortable. :) What more can one really ask of a shoe?

Besides, I think that pretty much any outfit benefits from a touch of red. And these flats are definitely the perfect touch! :)

Outfitted In: My Lucky Shirt

Lucky Shirt, Jeans, Vest, Bag, Bracelets, Sandals, Necklace: All Thrifted
This, my friends, is my lucky shirt. Or at least that's what it says on the front! I found this silly shirt while thrifting in Pensacola, and I love it. :) There are little horseshoes printed all over it, and it's super soft.

Even though I had on this shirt for thrifting yesterday, I didn't have too much success on the finds front. (Although I did find a couple vintage goodies I'll show you all this week!)

Hope your weekend is going well!

Amanda

Detail Shot Saturday: Kitty Cat Love

Silver Cat Pin, Thrifted in Pensacola; Tortie Cat Bag, DIY
I think by now, I should just admit the facts. My name is Amanda, and I am a cat lady.

How do I know that I'm finally a full-blown cat lover? Well, proof is in the pictures. I thrift cat things, and I make cat things. I'm a goner! :)

For those of you who aren't cat ladies (or cat gentlemen, as it may be), I apologize for the cat overload, and I suggest you meet a kitty like Moxie. I thought I'd never get over my fear of cats, but some are just as sweet as can be!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and Happy Birthday to my sis-in-law Ashley!!!

Last August, I Thrifted...

Vintage Lipstick Mirror, Thrifted August 2010
...A vintage lipstick mirror! Although at the time I didn't know what it was, and a couple lovely readers informed me of its purpose. :)

You just clip your lipstick to the circular part and then use the mirror to see what you're doing. Perfectly genius!

I hope you have a great Friday!!

Thrift Find: Cute Storage For Under a Buck!

Vintage Woven Basket, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
I like things to be relatively organized in our bathroom, especially since it also serves as a walk-in closet and laundry room! So when I find something cute to organize with for mere pennies, I grab it. :)

This little basket is the perfect size to hide away things like nail polish remover and rose-scented linen spray. Come to think of it, I should also put some of my nail polish collection in there!

Thrift shops are the perfect places to shop for baskets of all sizes for way less than you'd pay at places like Target. (And I love Target!)

Do you have any tips for easily thrifted things to organize with?

Amanda

Outfitted In: Floral, Fringe, and Tortie Cats!

Floral Shirt, Vest, Fringe Sandals, Bracelet: All Thrifted; Jeans, Burlington; Sunnies, eBay; Sprout Watch, KMart; Tortie Cat Printed Tote and Lapis Necklace, DIYed
This was my outfit for another lazy Sunday, spent estate sale hunting and movie watching with the hubby. :) Although I loved wearing my favorite fringe sandals, the star of this outfit was definitely my newly DIYed tortie cat printed bag!

It was just about the easiest project ever, too. :) I just made a cat head stamp based off Moxie cat's little head and big ears, and stamped all over the tote with black and brown paint. I went back over each cat head with more paint to make the print darker, and it was finished! Here's a close-up:

I hope you have a great Wednesday! Already halfway to the weekend, folks. :)

Thrift Finds: Playing Cat and Mouse

Laurel Burch Coin Purse ($0.50); Vintage Mouse Trap Note Holder (<$1) Both: Goodwill Outlet
Animal things always draw my attention. Give me animal-themed, animal-shaped, or animal-printed, and I will be happy.

I used to be a little bit hesitant to get cat-themed items though. I used to be so scared of cats, and it seemed hypocritical to buy cute cat things whilst running away from the real ones.

Little Moxie cat has totally reformed me, though, so cat items have inched their way near the top of my thrift list. This is especially true when it comes to quality vintage cat things, like this Laurel Burch coin purse for a mere 50 cents. :)

And this little mouse trap note holder? I mean, look at it- so cute! It's perfect on top of the hubby's desk to grab the little bits of paper that always seem to go missing.

I hope your week is going well!

Amanda

Thrift Find: Vintage Hair Curlers :)

80s Hair Curlers, Goodwill Outlet (~$1)
I've been a little obsessed with hair curlers lately. I thrifted a set about a month ago, but it was missing a couple pieces. So when I saw this full set with the cute little case, I had to grab it from the Goodwill bins!

I used them yesterday to curl my hair, and they work so well. :) I love that I can just twirl some up in my hair and leave them in while I get ready. They're much easier (and safer for a klutz like me) than a curling iron!

Have a great Monday, everyone. :)

Outfitted In: A Touch of Tomboy. A Dash of Red.

Shirt, Jeans, Oxford Flats, Necklace, Bracelet: All Thrifted; Bag, etsy
I grew up a complete tomboy. I was the girl who was usually playing sports with the guys instead of playing with girlie things. I was the girl who always wore pants, because in pants you are ready for any adventure.

Today, I have somewhat embraced my girlie side. I (sometimes) wear lipstick, I carry a purse, and I love anything floral. One thing I've never embraced, though, is wearing skirts or dresses. They just don't suit me- I am a million times more comfortable in pants!

So, even though every outfit I wear has a touch of tomboy, I think this outfit has just the right amount. This outfit felt very 'me'. Yes, even being a Canadian tuxedo. With a touch of red. :)

Have a great rest of your weekend!!

Amanda

Detail Shot Saturday: A Gifted Gourd :)

Handmade Gourd Necklace, gift
I feel like I talk about my Grammy on here a lot, but she's pretty darn cool! She not only introduced me to the best thrift shops around Pensacola, but she was the one who first introduced me to thrift shops years ago. (Way before thrifting was something cool to do. Before it was even called thrifting!)

In other words, Grammy is on my wavelength on a lot of things. :) So when she saw this awesome non-metal, handmade necklace a couple weeks before my trip to see her, she got it for me! Needless to say, I love it. It seems to go well with just about my whole wardrobe. :)

Thanks again, Grammy! Love you!

Estate Sale Treasure: Vintage Lovelies

Vintage Perfume Bottle ($1); Vintage 10K Gold Plated Watch Face ($2): Estate Sale
The estate sale that we went to last Sunday was full of vintage treasures! The hubby found a neat spider web-printed glass bottle and some old license plates, and I found the pretty items above. :)

I was super excited to find this neat old perfume bottle with a fake flower in the topper! I filled it with rose water, and I just love the look of it. :)

The tiny gold watch face is 10K gold plated, which is pretty great for two bucks! The watch doesn't work, and there's no band, but I know I'll think of something to do with it. I was thinking of maybe making a necklace? Let me know if you have any ideas!!

Outfitted In: Ruffles and Rain

Shirt, Button-Up, Mocs, Bag, Bracelets: All Thrifted; Ruffled Umbrella, Estate Sale; Jeans, Rugged Wearhouse
It seems as though any time it rains, my camera lens fogs up and takes grainy photos. This time, though, I didn't really mind. Sunday morning was so relaxed and fun, despite the weather. :) I'll take any excuse I get to use this adorable vintage ruffly umbrella! I scored it for about a buck at a recent estate sale!

Speaking of estate sales, I really need to photograph my finds from Sunday's. This week has been pretty busy, and I haven't been home early enough to take pictures in the sunlight! Hopefully, I'll have time later today, 'cause I got some pretty cool little things!

Thrifted, Gifted: Duck Tales and Manlier Games

Nintendo Games, Video Game Store in Foley, Alabama (~$6 each)
Okay, you guys. This is it- the final items from my trip! When we were in Foley for the day, we stopped at this little video game store that had a bunch of old-school games. The hubby still has (and plays) his original Nintendo, so I called him up and asked which ones I should get for him. (Aren't I a great wife? :))

Anyway, these were the ones he really wanted. And the one he was practically squealing over? Not the original Final Fantasy game, or even Knight Rider, but Duck Tales! Oh, hubby, you're so funny. :)

My funny story about these games has to do with going through security at the Pensacola Airport. You see, my bags were packed full. Like, they were solid to the touch full. Of course, when they scanned my suitcase, they had trouble deciphering what everything was, so they decided to hand-search it! You should've seen the guy's face as he pulls out all my random thrifted items, including these games. His response to them? "That's a weird thing to have in your suitcase, miss."

Um, yeah. I was on vacation- of course I'm going to bring back presents for my hubby! Maybe it was the combination of multiple piles of thrifted jewelry, three purses, three pairs of shoes, clothes, a Polaroid camera, a vintage Star Wars book, and a glass cat figurine stuffed into a tiny carry-on that confused him...

...or maybe I am just weird! ;)

Amanda

Thrifted Remix: That Floral Shirt

Floral Shirt, Thrifted
If there's one shirt that I've worn more than any other in the past year, it's this floral one! It's perfection in the hotter months, due to its perfectly baggy fit and lightweight material. I even wore it once when it was cooler by adding a jacket and a striped scarf. :)

Here's to hoping that this shirt has a lot more life in it!!!

Amanda

Florida Thrift Finds: A Necklace and A Bolo

Vintage Necklace & Bolo, Goodwill Pensacola ($2 each)
Nope, I'm still not finished sharing my Florida thrift finds! You can imagine how difficult it was zipping up my suitcase on my way home, but it was worth it. :)

Here are two of the necklaces I found at the same Goodwill as the bracelets I showed you all the other day. Their jewelry case held so many great things for low prices! I never find such a thing here in Richmond, so I had to take advantage of the situation and purchase as many neat pieces as I could. :)

Bolos are a favorite for me, since any metal hangs low enough that it doesn't touch skin. This one in particular caught my interest because of the stone's waves of color.

The blue necklace is very beachy, making it a fitting souvenir of Pensacola. :) The leather cord and glass pendants are unique and colorful, two things I love in jewelry!

Have a great Monday, everyone. :)

Always,
Amanda

PS: I re-vamped the blog, and I'm really loving it! What do you think?
